Isn't it amazing how so much of our lives can be wasted playing games. At a previous job in an IT helpdesk there were several people addicted to World of Warcraft and Second Life. I was fortunate enough to skip these phases as the people who played them seemed to play them all night.
My dad recently acquired an iPhone from my youngest sister. I installed a few apps and he has been playing an italian card game (Scopa) ever since, addicted to trying to climb the points leader board and reach the summit to the point whereby the actual game stops being fun.
On the other hand, my mum has a FB Bejeweled addiction. It does not get boring for her. As annoying as it get sometime being not able to use the home PC, I think it actually does her mind good and may be helping to keep her mind active and starve off alzheimers.
I must say I find simple phone or PC apps far more addictive than long quest type games - maybe I dont have the attention span for longer games or I am plain not good at them. Either way, a good chunk of my life has been spent playing games and I wonder what I could have achieved if I had put the time to something more constructive.
