Total Recall 2012

About the only thing I achieved today was that I had the opportunity to watch Total Recall. I really liked the Arnie version, as such, had reservations about whether or not I should watch nte new version but I took the plunge anyway.

I like post apocalyptic future presentations that are rough on the edges and show a future where people have to resort to old fashioned methods to survive, but are fused with futuristic enhancements that you could only imagine. I thought the original movie did this quite well but this one was a little too futuristic. It made for great special affects but the movie lost some of its aura.

A new generation of fans will probably like this movie but for purists lime myself who had seen the original, it is no match. I think settling on Mars was more realistic than going through the Earths core (as unrealistic as settling on Mars is). I really liked the little details in the original like the Johnny Cab and entrusting a stranger for help - the new one you always had a s sense of who was good and bad and it made the movie rather predictable.

I think I would have been happier if they had engineered a sequel to the original Like they did with Escape from New York. Are we that out of ideas as a society that we keep to go around resurrecting old ideas? Makes you wonder if they will refresh it again in 20 years time.
