I am a big caucasian that lives in a very asian end of town. I go for my walks through the main drag and through suburban streets.
What is common is that if I pass another caucasian there is a 50% chance they will say hi or nod. if I pass an asian, there is a 99% chance that they will catch a glimpse of me through a corner of their eye and walk past like I don't even exist. I look out for this glimpse, most times it is so subtle that I don't even think they know what they are doing.
Maybe it is cultural, maybe I freak them out. I don't know what they think I'm going to do, but sometimes its nice to feel human.
