Most people take holidays to have a break from work. I take them to take a break from home.
My parents are both in their 60's. I am the only child still living at home. They are quite traditional and conservative - as such have an.expectation that I will stay at home until I am married, which is looking increasingly unlikely. As they get older, so is their dependency on me.
Both my sisters forced their way out of home but not without a fight. I chose not to take the fight. I long believed that being a solo traveler was a waste and failed to talk people into going away with me. I was fortunate enough a few years ago to have rather frequent business trips interstate, which highlighted just how much I needed a break from home. When these dried up, I started making opportunities of my own.
Today I feel like I've been nagged at all day. It is close to midnight and it feels like I didn't have a moment to myself until a few hours ago. Rather exhausted now and this has been the first chance all day that I've had to write a blog entry
Don't get me wrong, living with my parents is cheap and easy, however, does have its cost.
