I watched a preview for this movie a few months ago at the cinemas when I watched the latest installment of the Batman movies and have wanted to see the movie ever since. The preview left me with 2 lasting impressions - that this was a re-invention of the 80's movie "Weird Science" (which I haven't seen in years but thoroughly enjoyed) and secondly, I could not get the Kaiser Chiefs song "Ruby" out of my head.
Well, I finally made my way around to watching this today. My impressions were largely incorrect and it was quite different from Weird Science. There was no explanations on how the girl came into existence and I found the first half a little slow - we all knew what was coming but it took a long time to unravel. It was different enough to any movie I can recall in the last 15 years, so I'd say it was worth watching if you are in the mood for some light entertainment but did not have the level of humour that I was expecting.
Without giving the way the ending, there were many shades of grey that made you wondered what just happened. I wish they had pushed the fiction bit a little harder instead of leaving it in the fringe of believability. Certainly worth a viewing but is nothing outstanding.
